Here’s an inspirational story from last weekend’s Cleveland Marathon:

After completing the half-marathon, sports editor Gene Myers donned his 2009 Free Press Marathon jacket and waited for a friend and coworker, Lisa O’Grady, running all 26.2 miles. A young woman bursting with energy approached him with two questions: “Did you run Detroit last year? Did you run today?”

Then the woman introduced herself: “I’m Coleen, from Season 6 of ‘The Biggest Loser.’ I was on the yellow team.”

She had a Detroit story. She had been one of 11 former “Biggest Loser” contestants to participate in last October’s events. She ran her first half-marathon, finishing in 3:01:56, which she called a “life-changing experience.”

About 10 minutes later, Coleen ran up to Myers again, almost breathless. “I just found out my official time,” she said. “I had to tell someone — 2:29:51. I broke 2 1/2 hours. I can’t believe it. This is so amazing.”

Coleen Skeabeck is 5-foot-2 and 25 years old and lives outside Cleveland. On the show in 2008, she went from 218 to 154 pounds. She doesn’t look like she has gained an ounce since.

She said she hoped to run Detroit again with some of her “Biggest Loser” friends in October.

Registration is open now.
